The Rage

Sitting at Wolves, drinking coffee, rendering footage and working on the lyrics for a new song about my rage. Yes, I have the rage. Not usually, but this morning/afternoon. In fact, it started last night. It's not rational and it doesn't really have a root cause but it's totally there. Hormones. I blame those fuckers! Will debut the new song at the Purple Turtle Rock Divas show in CPT this week Saturday.

Oh yes, the one thing that is somewhat of a balm to my fury. CPT. Ah yeah. Wed to Mon. Another mini CPT tour. www.facebook.com/ShotgunTori for dates and venues.

If you happen to see me this week, let's have a tequila k? That will ensure that I don't feel irrational rage towards you *wink* sort of just kidding...

After the show we headed to Boo Radley's to catch a bit of Gerald Clark playing blues - danced wildly, then headed to Assembly. Bit packed for our liking, so we missioned off to a chinese karaoke bar in town - OH MY - SO FUN! We sang karaoke until 5am.

Winter Warming Tour Diary - Day 4

Today Jo & I co-hosted Aidan Harper's radio show on MuthaFM - what fun!!!!! He let us choose all the local music we could possibly wanna play - wooohoooo! We played Rambling Bones, the Frown, Deep Fried Man, Gareth Wilson, Sticky Antlers, UJU - delicious. And I played a couple of tracks live *grin*

The only night of the tour we have off, and like real rock 'n roll legends, we got a movie, a mexican take-out & a bottle of wine :)

day 3 cont...

I forgot to post the pic of why Jo wanted to hug the dj!!! - here it is... the door of the dj booth...

Winter Warming Tour Diary - Day 3

Early early early morning start for a breakfast show interview on UCT Radio with Mark Johnson, delicious creature - still in his pj's :) Mark wouldn't let Jo hug him and she was sad about that, cause it's her new favourite hobby ;) One day she'll get you mark!! *grin*

Nothing like playing LIVE on air to keep a girl on her toes... (no shoes on 'n all - it's warm in CPT today!)

Received a message from a friend of mine in Switzerland to say that he'd been listening to the show on the web. Super cool!

Next up we headed to 2oceansvibe radio for another interview with Luca & Josie!

Now, my little sister had warned me that the DJ's on 2oceansvibe radio took the piss, and that I should probably have a listen prior to the interview to get a bit of a heads up... I didn't get a chance to listen, but I was pretty nervous... So, with their offices in De Waterkant we decided a quick trip to Lazari's for their famous pink icing cupcakes was in order, a little something to sweeten them up!

Turns out that they were sweet enough! What awesome creatures, and such a fun interview! We're definitely gonna be streaming this radio station from joburg. If you're also keen to, it's http://www.2oceansviberadio.com/

Sms from a mate of ours in Pretoria to say he was listening and recording the show... ah yeah Floris, thanks, you totally are a geek and that's what we love about you :)

We made a little stop past Lazari's ourselves afterwards for a reward skinny latte & cupcake *twirl*

Tonight's show was at the Barleycorn Folk Club in Claremont - what a CROWD! So appreciative! So quiet! So responsive! So lovely!

Winter Warming Tour Diary - Day 1

Driving from Illovo, Joburg to Oolong Lounge, Bloemfontein

Planned departure: 10am
Actual departure: 12.40pm
Distance: 398km (about 4 hours)
Planned arrival time: 5pm
Actual arrival time: 6pm

After last night’s fantastic show at Howl Records Folk Festival at The Nunnery, woke up elated and amped for my winter tour to Cape Town. For the first time, nothing hanging over my head before leave. This tour in particular feels epic in nature.

Despite our intentions to leave at 10am, we took it pretty easy. Before we hit the road, we headed to Aware music store at 70 Juta Street so that Jo could pick up some CDs she ordered. We then headed to next door to Post, where Aware’s DJ Destrukto bought us a cup of coffee. Such a sweetheart! We got takeaway prego rolls (which were delicious!) from Post for lunch and then hit the road. This was around 12.40pm. Cutting it fine, but Bloem is only about four hours away, and soundcheck at Oolong set for 5pm. So all good, right?

Right. We hit traffic as soon as we hit the M1/N1 to Bloem… fortunately, it cleared up fairly quickly and it was clear skies and roads until just before Ventersburg. At this point, my car’s electrics went a little awry. My handbrake and inside car light went on, and my indicator/hazard and temperature gauge alert lights went off. Uh oh.

I pulled off at the first garage we came across, a friendly Caltex in Ventersburg. An auto-electrician was called and arrived quite quickly. While he fiddled around in the fuse box, we stood in the freezing cold, with the wind chilling our bones despite the vanilla cappuccinos in our hands. This was the first time since I quit that I found myself thinking that now was a good time for a cigarette. So glad I resisted that impulse.

I asked Jo to take a photo of me paying the sweet auto-electrician for our tour blog, which ended up causing a bit of a fuss. His girlfriend, who’d been waiting in his car the entire time, charged up to Jo and demanded that she delete the photo. Jo’s wide-eyed “We’re musicians, it’s for our tour blog. It’s innocent, I promise!” seemed to calm her down a little, but it left us both with that icky feeling that we’d accidentally done something wrong. Did she think we were from Carte Blanche? Or was she just jealous? Her boyfriend definitely didn’t seem to think anything untoward had been done, so we waved goodbye and sped away in as non-suspicious a way as we could.

We were back on the road by 4pm, with 180km (?) to go, but the adrenaline pumping through me, and the weird vibes from Aggro Girl, had me laughing and feeling the adventure creeping up on us. We were going to be late for soundcheck at 5pm, but we’d get there and that’s all that mattered. It’s at this pint that I realise how far into the unknown we are stepping here. Also, I really need to pee.

Late for soundcheck, but everybody was chilled - it was love at first sight for Bloem and her people, think it was returned *blush* can't wait to go back! Sandy Little & Louw and Mariska & Bux opened - wow - some serious talent here!

Hit the road at 10.30pm after the show, gonna drive through the night - Cape Town here we come!!!
